Born in 1954.
Became a graphic designer upon graduation from Musashino Art University in Commercial Design. Later, made a name as an illustrator in the advertising industry.

A series of European scenery paintings done for a major Japanese newspaper on a monthly basis for two years from 1989 attracts national attention and appeal. A solo exhibition was held in 1990 to answer this popularity and to serve as Teppei’s debut as an artist.

Silkscreen prints released the following year brought widespread acclaim and acceptance into Japan’s mainstream art scene. Thereafter, released more than 120 print artwork, popularity of which has resulted in numerous solo exhibitions across Japan. Today, Teppei’s reputation as one of Japan’s foremost artists is unassailable. Moreover, his art picture books, DVDs and other art publications have become best sellers in the art category for that year.

Blending Japan’s traditional sense of beauty as shown in Ukiyoe and Rinpa with the sensibility of French Impressionists Teppei first experienced in his student days, and with the illustration technique honed as a professional, Teppei has created a unique mode of expression that employs light in a magical way to depict not only objects. There is, however, one common denominator in all : the tranquility and happiness – filled scenes of daily life enveloped by the special warmth of light. This light, which exuded kindness and comfort, has attracted the hearts of both men and women, young and old, and has given Teppei the reputation as a “Master Depicture of Serenity of Light”.

In 2005, held a solo exhibition in Italy’s city of Art, Firenze, in honor of its 40th anniversary of sister city relationship with Kyoto, Japan. In 2006, held a joint exhibition with Liu Chang Shun at the National Chinese Fine Arts Museum in Beijing, China. Both enjoyed excellent receives.
   

１９５４   Born in Hyogo Prefecture.
１９７７   Graduated from the Commercial Design Department of Musashino Art University.
            After working as graphic designer, became illustrator under contract to an advertisement
            production company.
１９８０   Become freelance. Made (over 200) illustrations principally for Morinaga & Co,Ltd. during
            a period of 10 years.
１９８７   Created illustrations of towns of the Romantic Highway in southern Germany for the
           "Romantic Gallery" series in a monthly installment in The Mainichi Newspapers color edition.
１９８８   Created illustrations of towns in France for "Romantic Colored Streets" series in a
            monthly installment in The Mainichi Newspapers color edition.
１９９０   Held his first solo exhibition at Spiral Gallery, Aoyama, Tokyo, upon which he started to
            devote himself to producing works as an artist.
１９９１   Presented his first serigraph "Cadaques". Submitted work in the Los Angeles Art Expo.
１９９２   Produced commemorative print "Utrecht" for Floriade / 1992 held in the Netherlands.
            Submitted same works in the New York Art Expo.
１９９４   Held solo exhibition in Daimaru, Kobe.
１９９６   July, held major original art exhibition in Odakyu Department Store, Shinjuku.
            Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Marui Imai, Sapporo,
            and Takashimaya, Shinjuku.
１９９７   Presented CD-ROM "The Art of Teppei Sasakura", receiving favorable reviews.
            Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Iwataya, Fukuoka ; Matsuzakaya,
            Ginza ; and Korinbo Daiwa, Kanazawa.
１９９８   Produced "Wing of Heart" as the image art commemorating the completion of
            Fuji television Netwark / Nippon Broadcasting Co.'s rebuilt head office building. December,
            first museum solo exhibition at "Daimaru Museum Tokyo", comprehensively showing
            all his works to date including those during his illustrator days. Held solo exhibition in the
            following department stores : Mitsukoshi, Nagoya ; Matsuzakaya, Ueno ;and Daimaru, Umeda.
１９９９   Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Odakyu, Shinjuku ; Iyotetsu-Sogo,
            Matsuyama ; Daimaru, Umeda ; and Tobu, Ikebukuro.
２０００   January, established Sasakura Teppei Office: Art terrace Inc. mainly dealing with
            print publishing. October, publication of "Teppei Sasakura" by Kyuryudo.
            Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Sogo, Kobe ; Mitsukoshi,
            Fukuoka ; Daimaru, Umeda ; Odakyu, Shinjuku ; and Matsuzakaya, Nagoya.
２００１   Work "Blessing" became official work of Italy, Firenze, Japan Cultural and Economic
            Exchange Association. Held major exhibitions of original art in Tokyo and Osaka.
            Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Fukuya, Hiroshima and
            Mitsukoshi, Chiba.
２００２   September, publication of the catalogue raisonne "the Teppei Sasakura all prints collection
            1991-2002" (by Kyuryudo) which covered all the print works published until now.November,
            Presented DVD video "The Art World of Teppei Sasakura", receiving favorable reviews.
            Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Daimaru, Shinsaibashi ; Yamagataya,
            Kagoshima ; Daimaru, Hakata ; and Daimaru, Umeda. December, Held major exhibitions of
            original art at "Daimaru Museum Tokyo".
２００３   Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Fukuya, Hiroshima ;
            Daimaru, Sapporo ; and Matsuzakaya, Nagoya.
２００４   April, publication of "the poem & art works of Teppei Sasakura. 〜In the Gentle Season〜゛
            by Kyuryudo. Held solo exhibition in the following department stores : Daimaru, Kyoto ;
            and Daimaru, Shinsaibashi. May, first foreign solo exhibition at Recanati in Italy.
２００５   September, Held solo exhibition at Firenze in Italy. Held solo exhibition in the following
            department stores : Mitsukoshi Sendai, Daimaru, Kochi; Daimaru, Kyoto ;
            Tamapulaza,Tokyu; and Mitsukoshi, Chiba.
２００６   October, Held joint exhibition with Liu Chang Shun in Beijing, China.
